The day started with a long walk up from either the pub or the pond to the pitch. When we got there, there was a lot of cloud over our heads and it was very windy which made it cold. Mark went out to toss up in the mind of bowling first, but lost the toss and we were put into bat. This week it was up to Bryn who scored a high score of 96 last season and Dave who was quite surprised to open the batting, it was Bryn's first game off the season. The team were on the bench hoping for the best possible start, but that was only hopes because first ball Bryn was bowled on leg stump by there left handed opening bowler. As Bryn walked off the pitch in disbelief one of lads asked him "did it swing". His reply was "like a banana". So being 0 for 1 Mark Fish walks out to bat at number 3 and once again being at the wicket with not even an over being bowled. Shortly after Dave Foulkes was bowled on middle stump for 1, also by there opening bowler. Once again one of the lads asked "did it swing". But Dave replied "no not at all, not once". So was Bryn telling the truth. So Jake fish walks out to bat with his dad, once again. With the score at 16 for 2 we needed to consolidate, not the game that Mark would usually play. For the next 18 or so overs up until drinks it went plain sailing for the father and son. At drinks on the 23rd over we were 93 for 2 looking good to post a good score. But first ball after drinks mark was bowled with the ball hitting the top of off. When he got back to the pavilion he said " I swear that ball pitched outside leg stump". I don't think many believed that. So with mark gone for 47 it left Jake to bat with Shair. But in that very over Jake went for a drive through the covers which was quite uppish. There fielder at mid off ran to his left and with a dive caught a stunning catch. So that's 94 for 4, well Ed walks into bat and is bowled facing his first ball. I think he spent more time putting his kit on than he did out in the middle. That's 94 for 5. Andy Coles is next in bat but his partner at the other end vanished. Thats Shair gone, that leaves us struggling at 96 for 6. Paul Corfield then joins Andy at the crease. This was a turning point for the next spell of overs we scored at a good run rate. But then Paul top edged a ball into his face. He had to retire hurt on 26. Glen Formoy then walked to the crease with nine overs to go and says to Andy "shall we play some calypso cricket". Andy replied "no I haven't got my fifty yet ". Well eventually he did, with fisko finishing up with 212 for 6 with Andy getting 60 and Glen 25 both NOT OUT. Stanton now require 213 to win. Well it started well for us when in the first over Phil's bowling managed to get there opener to get a thin inside edge which was taken safely by Jake to give fisko their first wicket, Ahmed then opened from the other end. In Phil's second over he bowled there number 3, Phil then also bowled there number 4. It was Ahmeds turn to be in with the wickets bowling there number 5. The weather then closed in and it started to rain. We came off the field and in his break we found out that Ahmeds name wasn't really Ahmed it was Asam. Which dave didn't bother to mention when we'd all been calling him Ahmed. It finally stopped raining and play continued. Bryn then trapped there number 6 plum LBW. Then there was confusion in the batting with there number 2 hitting it straight to Bryn and calling yes. There batter gave up half way down the track despite a shocking throw. Phil came back on to bowl and took the wicket of there number 2 who had just got fifty caught behind to give Jake his second catch of the game. Jake has now taken 5 catches in the opening 2 games this season. Glen Formoy then came on to bowl a bit waywardly but eventually took the wicket of their number 8. They only had ten men so we only needed one more wicket to win with them at 112 for 8. Phil then bowled their number 10 round his legs to give him his 5 wicket hall. We had won by 98 runs with them finishing on 114 all out. Thats 20 points and 2 wins out of 2. Were on a roll. Next Up Broad Street.
