Match Report

There was a few issues before the game - mainly getting a team out but there was a great phone call on friday night from Newby saying he would play and he was a main factor in us winning though he was shown up in the field a little by yours truly. The toss was won and I opted to bowl on a pitch that didnt look that good. The bowling attack was limited in choice as a potential opening bowler was going to nuthall even though they arent in our division. So it was over to Andy Coles and Andy Polkey. They both bowled well and it was Coles who took the first wicket whilst Ali was doing his local tour. Ali turned up and within a couple of overs took a one handed catch which was very well judged. The opposition were three down at drinks for 60 and then came the bowling changes of Ian Wilkinson and Ali. Ali lost his run up I think that was in nuthall but managed to take two wickets in his first over aided by a good catch at second slip by Andy Coles. Ian then took a wicket in the next over a good catch at gully by Richard Foulkes. The opposition were reduced to 110 all out thanks to a run out by Andy Polkey denying Ali his 5 wickets but he finished with 4 for 15 and Ian bowled 8 overs 2 for 16 a great finish. then tea which was brilliant and put Paddy's efforts to shame she must do better next time. Then we set about batting and the skipper told Newby and Jake to stay there for 20 overs and we would be on our way to a win. Jake went after a bowl outside his leg stump and was caught by the oldest man on the pitch diving forwards at square leg. Then in went Kev smith who lasted a while with Newby. Then Kev was bowled and we were 17 for two. It was formoys turn next and he looked very comfortable as did Newby and they took the score quickly onto 49 before Formasy was given out lBW and he wasnt very happy about it as the bowler was bowling left arm round and it hit him quite a way down track. In went Steve Milner to consolidate the position but came back having been bowled inb the same over. 49-4 a problem possibly but not with the reliable Ali going in at 6. The score had raced to 52 before Ali was adjudged LBw. So a possible problem needing 59 with half our team out. Newby and Coles took the score onto 73 before Newby just lashed out to be caught off the left arm round trundler. this was all before drinks. In went in the Skipper and with his bald companion moved to the drinks break with the scxore on 83. in the 24th over skipper was given LbW even thoughhe was outside the line by about a foot however you cant  complain you are supposed to use your bat to hit the ball not your leg. So over to Polkey and Coles with 20 needed and 7 wickets down. Polkey hit a four to tie the scores and upset the bowler which prompted the next vall to be a bouncer. The next ball was pitchedup and Polkey smashed through extra cover and just turned round to walk off. This prompted Ali to shought out run its not gone even though the ball was wedged in a hedge. So we beat top of the table and if we win our remaining games we will be in with a chance of promotion. It was a good display all round and a deserved victory Coles ended up on 30 not out and was Mom with his two wickets and catch to go with it.

Cheers
