Match Report

On what can only be described as the worst pitch in history Fiskerton lost to Laxton by 11 runs. We turned up at Laxton to find a ground smaller than a postage stamp and a pitch that hadnt been cut for a month with a rabbit hole on a length at one end. Losing the toss we were put in the field and with Dan Collington and the Polish Pro at the other end Laxton promtly put on a few runs in the first few overs before Dan got the first wicket with sharp work from Max Danby behind the stumps. Dan had 2 overs finishing with 1 for 7. Ian Wilko came on at the other end and was dispatched for 15 off his first over although he did take the wicket their number 3 in the process. He should have had 2 but Jim 'i've never dropped a catch' Kirkham didnt even go for a chance that dropped about 2 feet behind him! Phil Z then picked up his 30th wicket of the year hitting middle stump. Phil's bowling also provided the captain calamaty moment with a spooned shot going straight to Robbo at Gully but Robbo decided not to bother with it. Phil finishing wth 1 for 33 off his 3 overs. Steve Collington replaced Ian Wilko and bowled tightly and slowed the run rate taking 3 for 14 off his 3 overs. Ed Akers came on to replace Phil Z and after struggling with his line early on got the wicket of the other opener caught by Max Danby. Ed finished with 1 for 17 off 2 overs. Ian Wilko did get another chance and made the most of it finishing off the innings with his second ball finishing with 2 for 15 off 1.2 overs. I decided to mix up the batting and opened with Jim Kirkham and Ben Carr. Jim looked good early on hitting a solid 11 before deciding he'd had enough. Rob Turner came in at 3 to face a spinner that got both turn and bounce. In fact his first ball to Rob turned and bounced as Rob watched it hit his chest (go on Rob give it a rub!). Rob was soon out skying one to cover. Robbo joined Ben Carr and they put on a good stand before Robbo fell for 22. After that Max and Dan were out cheaply and Ben Carr was hit in the ribs and had to retire hurt for a MOTM 32. With Fisko needing 13 from the last over Steve Collo and Ed Akers couldnt manage the runs. A good effort though.
