Match Report

Travelling to Hoverigham after a wet morning, I was unsure whether the pitch was fit to play on. Naturally, the home side wanted to play and it was left to the umpires to decide. We agreed 40 overs a side and won the toss electing to field.

The pitch played better than it looked and the Fisko opening bowlers struggled for line and length. A change had to be made early and coming into the attack, Neil Davey bowled tight clawing back the run rate. Todd and Collo Snr came on and steadied the ship further, Toddy taking 3 for 58 in his spell and Collo, 1 for 31 off his 10. Max Danby taking the other wicket for 43 at the death. Pick of the fielders was Steve Milner who covered a lot of ground sweeping a short boundary and saved a potential total of 250.

Hoveringham set Fisko a gettable 216 to win.

Fisko got off to the worst possible start with us on 17 for 3. In stepped Mike and Gareth Rees who each took the bowlers apart and 61 and 68 respectively. A match winning partnership was building but both fell close to each other putting Hoveringham on top again. Dan and PJ tried to get the ball away but the home side bowling was tight and brought them back into the game.  We fell an agonising 12 runs short but the team battled well and the spirit in the changing room is better than it has been for weeks. The team need to dig deep and fight for league survival and with the spirit shown today I can honestly say we have every chance.

Joint MOM today goes to Mike and Gareth. A close candidate with a great performance in the field from Steve Milner, making his 1st team debut and showing that fielding is just as important as batting and bowling
