Having lost the toss, Gedling Colliery elected to bat first. Phil Z struck early taking both the openers, whilst Andy Laughton tied the other end down with another great spell of 1 for 37 off his allotted 8 overs. Jim Kirkham bowled tightly making a mends for a previous week which shall not be mentioned, but the real surprise was Kyle Barkers 5 overs going for just 24 runs and picking up a wicket along the way. This was a particuarly good little spell as it was at a time when the opposition were really looking to use the pace of the ball to accumalate quick runs. A middle order partnership did the damage, with numbers 5 & 6 scoring 84* & 86 respectively, both these guys were dropped early on and this proved fatal.
Our innings got off to a reasonable start with Martin Stretch looking like he has never stopped playing with a fantastic 74, which included 8 fours and 4 sixes. Dave Hedge was run out for just 16 runs whilst crawling for a second run, this lead the way for Amit Bajra's debut scoring a steady 24 runs. The only other player to test the scorers observation skills was Andy Laughton who left the field of play with an unbeaten 30 runs.
We came up 50 runs short today, a little more application in the field would have saved us 25 runs. A little more application with the bat would have gained us 25 runs. This could've been a lot closer than it actually was.
Man of the Match: Mr Stretch for a fluid looking 74
Captain Calamity: Nick Freeman, run out for 0
