In a day where a victory was needed badly due to the recent 9 point deduction, a positive start was required, and was achieved. Dan Collington taking the first 3 wickets quickly, all bowled and one of the scalps being Carmoy the record breaking Kiwi who scored 222 against Bestwood 2 weeks prior. The dream start was tainted slightly with a dropped catch from Bailey at mid off, unfortunately this proved costly. Every fielder hopes and prayers another chance will quickly come there way to right the wrong, unfortunately this did not come for qute some time. The batsmen went on to score 79 before being caught by the man of the match Gav Lewis off Hedgie's bowling. A steady performance in the field saw Thoresby limp to 197 for 9 off the 40 overs, impressive bowling from Collington, Hedge and Laughton taking both wickets and maintaining good economy rates. 197 off 40 overs at Fiskerton is not enough, and this was the view of not only the skipper but the whole team as we batted deep today.
The dream start with the ball in our hands was not mirrored with the bat. Losing our top 4 batsmen for just 20 runs is always going to create an uphill battle. The positive, is the tail did wag, to look at the score book it looks like we reversed the batting order. Well done to Newby for steadying the ship, Spittlehouse on debut had done well with both bat and ball, and Gav (32) & Richo (25*) looked at one stage like they might just bring us home. However the task was too great and we fell just short.
Lets look forward to the next match, and replicate the excellent all round performance we saw at Wollaton.
