Match Report

I'll set the scene. Playing at Claypole school, on possibly the worst pitch i've played on, Fiskerton turned up with 7 men to play. Kev O was he 8th man and on his way but lost somewhere only he knows. Ali was skipper and when thoughts were raised of conceeding, he commented 'we might as well go out there, hearts on our sleves and give it ago'.....Poetic Ali.....poetic. The match was reduced to 10 overs. So Ali did the decent thing and lost the Toss which meant we fielded with 7 men. However Fiskerton really did put an brilliant effort in with Ali once again showing he doesnt need fielders to get wickets, picking up 2 more, both bowled. At the other end Ian Wilko bowled a great line and length, however both of his 2 wickets were the 2 worst balls he bowled all night! Ed Akers also got in the act with 1 wicket and Rob Turner getting figures he surely cannot ever repeat of 1.2 overs 3 for 9. Add to that a direct hit run out from Akers, (that'll never happen again!), Beckingham were bowled out for 67. Very Gettable. So with Dave Foulkes and Rob Turner opening, we got off to a brillaint start with both making 0. Dave got a horrendous ball which barely got off the pitch so was very unlucky. So Kev O and Ed Akers both came to the crease and Kev kept his end well making 4 before being bowled. At the other end Akers made good progress hitting 1's and 2's. Ali came to the crease and duely tried to tee off, missing some and hitting others, including a huge six. So with 5 overs gone Fiskerton had moved on to 44-3. At this stage Ali went for one big shot to many and was caught for 15. Steve Milner came to the crease and he and Ed Akers started to build another partnership, before Steve edged to slip. This was dropped and Akers called the quick single and duely ran himself out! Numpty! Akers departing for 20. Wilko could only last a couple of balls, leaving Richard Wagstaff and Steve Milner an agonising 17 runs to find off 3 overs. Both gave it their best shot, and having reached 58, Richard Wagstaff was bowled for 7, leaving Steve Milner stranded on 5*. A very, very good effort. The twist at the end being that some dodgey scoring by Fisko meant that we actually had 64 when we were bowled out not 58, meaning we fell only 4 runs short. Unfortunately, we lost because people didnt make themselves available. With 11 men, it should and would have been an easy win. Captain Calamity - Phil Z for letting Ali down on the night (His words not mine!!) MOTM - Ed Akers (Again the skipper chose this, not me!)
