To use a football cliche this was a real 'game of two halves'. We felt we owed Beckingham a good thrashing after the away game when they agreed to play with 8 and turned up with 11. Even with 8 we came close to beating them that time. So when Jim won the toss and elected to bat against 9 man beckingham we felt a thrashing was on the cards.
The main story of the batting was Dave Newby crashing 64 runs well supported by Jim Kirkham (36) and Chris Spittlehouse (21). Having set a target of 144 off our 12 overs we felt confident of a comfortable victory.
Then we took the field and it went slightly downhill. Expensive bowling, 4 dropped catches, a mis-stumping, numerous mis-fields and more 1's turned into 2's than we cared to remember. It really was poor. The pick of the bowling was young Jack Surtees whoes figures of 2 overs 1 for 14 remided us again what an important good young player he will become. His wicket coming with a interesting 1 handed catch from Akers....(good job i didnt drop it!). Neil Davey with the other wicket bowling the other opener.
Beckingham managed 122 which is far more than they should have got and it made the game a lot tighter than it should have been.
MOTM - Dave Newby for his exellent 64
Cpt Calamity - Dave Newby for dropping a hard catch (the ones that come straight to you are always the hardest Dave!!)
