A disappointing end to this match and the season as we really thought we were in with a shout. Toss won and electing to bat we ammased our best score of the year (without first team help!) It shows how far this team has come that we ammased 187 for 6 having earlier in the season been bowled out for 39 & 64. Promising knocks from Butler (22), Hawkins (28), Whitby (19), Akers (46) and the returning Andy 'Slogasaurous' Gordon (40) showing that this team does have batting potential.
In truth we were a bowler short, oh for a Jack Surtees or a Dan Jones. However those who were there stuck at it right to the end, Andy Gordon taking 2 for 35, Akers 2 for 34, Rich Barker with an unlucky spell of 0 for 32. Dan Pearson was the pick of the bowling with 1-22 off his 6 overs and showed that he has a bright future. Thurgarton knocked off the runs with 2 overs to go.
Even though we lost i was very proud of the efforts of the players not just today but over the whole season. We might not be the best side in the world, but we have a good team spirit and some good players amongst us and what we saw against Thurgaton must be used as a platform for next year. If we are to be competetative next year we must learn how to catch and quickly. I dont know how many catches were dropped during the season but i would guess around 30-35 have been dropped which have cost us several games. If we can learn how to do that, we may well just be in with a chance of winning a few matches.
I would also just ike to say thanks to Russ Jones and mention the excellent young lads he has brought through that have played a huge part in the season, Jones, Pearson, Stanley, Pritchett, Wand, Stevenson, Napier & probably a few i've forgotten have really showed that this club has an excellent future. We must stick with these lads, they are the biggest asset this club has right now and we must do everything we can to make sure that they continue to progress and enjoy their cricket at Fiskerton.
Thanks one and all for your help and support this year. See you in April!
