Match Report

******* THE RAIN NEVER CAME *******

Having won the toss with a damp track, and rain forecast. I believed a drop of rain would end the match, and with only 10 men I felt we would chance our arm in the field with a view to the game potentially drizzling to a damp end. How wrong I was!!

Bright sunshine, a small boundary and an opposition who deserve to be at the top of the league was the punishment for Fiskerton CC fielding just 10 men. The players who played, had the right attitude and gave 100%, however this cannot divert the attention away from the fact that we only had 10 players. As a club it was shameful to visit another with only 10 men, and I would question every individual that did not make themselves available as to whether they want to continue playing cricket on a Saturday. We just cannot afford to show such poor commitment generally as a club to Saturday cricket!

Now to the match: Debutant James Stevenson showed great spirit behind the stumps and at just 13 yrs old I believe will make a great assett to any team at Fiskerton. And will certainly be part of my plans for the remainder of the season, as will Jack Surtees who it has to be said had an excellent spell with the ball. And even at one stage had the batsmen who had already passed his ton in trouble. GREAT BOWLING JACK.

The truth is we struggled with both bat and ball in general and the team we faced were just too strong on the day.

Andy Laughton bowled extremely well collecting all of the 6 wickets, but has been awarded Capt Calamity for awarding himself MOTM too many times on Sundays. (He will argue "skippers priviledge")

Jack Surtees MOTM today as the line and length he bowled at times was near perfect.
