A really good effort which in the end we lost by 20 odd runs. But we competed and we felt like a team which made for a great game played in a great spirit. Thanks to Coddington & Winthorpe for a good afternoons cricket.
After winning the toss i decided to field based on 2 things. Firstly the pitch was wet and green and with the sun out it was only going to get better for batting as the day went on. Secondly we hadnt fielded for 40 overs yet this year so i wanted to get some overs under our belt. We bowled well as a unit, 4 for Josh Perry, 3 for Akers, 2 for Paul Orgill and 1 for Jonno Hatton with excellent bowling from Corey Thomas, Joe Orgill and Rich Barker going unrewarded. A mention for Paul Whitby who kept very well, giving away only 2 byes and also it was nice to see Corey Thomas up and about after his knock on the ankle.
Coddington were bowled out for 146. A gettable score we thought.
Coddingtons 2 opening bowlers kept it tight, with the score at 7-1 off the first 10 overs. We were 44 for 3 at 20 overs so the decision was taken to give it a go......and we came close, but in the end just 1 more score from someone would have won the game. Akers got the majority, 51*, with a couple of big hits, with notable contributions from Josh Perry, 20, Rich Barker, 20 and Bryan Butler, 16.
Onwards and upwards lads, a 1000% improvement on 2 weeks ago so thank you for your efforts today.
