Match Report

I'm going to try not to write an essay! What a great win, really chuffed to bits with all 11 players in a great all round performance.

Batting first i thought it might be a rubbish decision when we were 4-2 off 8 overs. Paul Whitby and Bryan Butler both got good balls. Their opening australian bowler was swinging it all over the place, but thanks to a partnership of 71 from myself and Kevin Osbon, the ship was steadied and it laid the platform for a good total. I got out to one of those straight balls that are always hard to defend for 40 but Kev O then set about antoher partnership with Andy Polkey. A quick 36 in 37 balls from Polks was jusy what the doctor ordered. Now at this point we were all wondering....could Kevin really get 50? We were all thinking that this could give hope to all cricketers everywhere. After a quick 4 from Milner, Kevin finally brought up his maiden Fisko 50. It was a beauty......edged to slip, dropped and a scrambled 1 later and it was there. In truth though Kevin batted very well and held an end up for 30 overs. Well played Kev. In the end we finished on 168 for 7 which we thought was going to be enough.

The start we made was magnificent. The first 10 overs went for 8 runs for the fall of 2 wickets. Polkey was like a metronome, placing it on the spot ball after ball. 8 overs 5 maidens 2 for 9 was a fantastic spell. Even i managed 2 maidens which is a rarety! Following that, Paul Orgill bowled a great spell to keep it tight whilst at the other end Rich Barker was unlucky not to pick up a wicket, although he did drop one off his own bowling. Kyle Barker then bowled 7 tight overs and was unlucky when his dad dropped a dolly. Happy Fathers day son! Joe Orgill and Steve Milner both bowled well at the death before I returned to take 2 wickets in my penultimate over. Now, on a hatrick ball i wasnt bothered about bringing the field in and I was very insistent they all stayed where they were on the boundary. All i was bothered about was the win.....i was outvoted by both Vice Captains and it was only afterwards i realised we'd already run the game by that point so it wouldnt have mattered. It was decided that i should get Capt Calamity for that. I dont agree!

Anyway, a great win and so much better than the Bestwood Village game 3 weeks ago. Enjoy it lads and lets have another one next week.
