A fantastic win, set up by a brilliant all round performance by James Kirkham. Winning the toss and with some first team batsmen i decided to bat first on a hot day. Fisko's pitches are always very good, but this was a belter and we made the most of some poor bowling. A fantastic first Fiskerton centuary from Kirkham assisted by 46 from Dave Newby and 24 from Chris Spittlehouse gave us a total of 219 which we felt was defendable. In truth we'd have liked a few more but i think that shows just how far the Sunday seconds have come this year.
When Chris Spittlehouse was hit for 6 off his second ball i was slightly concerned! In total we lost 3 match balls as some huge early shots left us reeling and a bit shell shocked. However, once I got a grip, and with some advice from some of the more experienced players, we got the field sorted and dried up the run rate. Then we sat back and waited for the big hitters to get themselves out. It didnt take long for Polkey to make the breakthrough and once we'd got them 4 down we realised there wasnt a lot left. However the Notts and Arnold skipper was still there, and that meant they still had a chance. However Newby really tied an end up with his 8 overs and took the crucial wicket, with a great catch from Jack Surtees at deep mid off. After that it was just a matter of time before Spittlehouse wrapped the innings up. In between that James Kirkham bowled an unbelieveable spell of bowling to remove the middle order taking 5 for 30 to cap surely his best day in a Fiskerton shirt.
Captain Calamity to Chris Spittlehouse. After asking for no slacking off with 1 wicket to go, he went down like an 80 year old granny to the weakest square cut you'll ever likely to see to give them an extra run.
