It was hard to believe this was the first outing of the newly formed Saturday seconds, after floods had washed out previous matches.
A spirited 143 in brisk conditions, with able support from Paul Black playing an excellent holding role late in the innings, left the home side chasing what looked like a gettable score, and even more gettable when their opening batsman got them to 86 for 0 from the first 20 overs, with some good luck from grassed chances.
Luckily Dave Hedge, who had already provided 50% of the runs, decided to get stuck in, and quickly slowed the run rate to a crawl and then claimed a 6 wicket haul, although in fairness, as was discussed afterwards, it could have been 12 wickets so many chances were put down.
Max came out from behind the stumps and allowed Whitby to take the gloves, and mopped up the other 3 wickets with some excellent off spin and topping off his '3 for'with a take from in front of the stumps off an excellent sharp throw from Dave Yates to claim a run out and deny Mr Yates a showing in the fielding stats.
Thanks lads, it was a brisk day, and nice to get the young uns off with a win and 19 points.
