Zero to Hero in 24 hours, Dave Hedge aided Dan Jones to captain a different looking side in this game with a Young Lions side who only had 9
Losing the toss Dan was consigned to bat and asked Max and Whitby to set a target. Paul soon found out the lions bit from the opponent when their opening bowler produced a Jaffa to bowl him.
In came Hedgey to play the worst shot of his batting career paying a pull shot to a ball that barely was above his knees and was bowled for a duck.
Thinking he was going to come and play some free shots Dan was left to grind out an openers innings especially when Max also picked the wrong ball to play a mis timed wrong shot to and was caught cheaper than he should have been when seeing the excellent shot making at the start of his innings.
David Yates came in and want fairly quickly to be followed by Harry. At last the batsmen stuck around whilst not achieving a rapid scoring rate at least slowed down the fall of wickets.
Both played patiently and should have gone to get higher scores if both had moved their feet earlier.
Eventually Dan was out with a very good yorker which literally squeezed under his bat.
Phil Z came in and tried to get the scoring moving but was out cheaply and so was Charlie Wand following him.
Josh came in, decided he would swing timber and upped the score rate as a result.
All loolking well for Harry to fall and in came James Pritchett looking for all the world like Rip Van Winkel.
So asleep was he on a call for a sharp single by Josh that he found Josh virtually next to him, with Josh having to run for 2 without scoring and JAmes doing a pasable imperssion of an Oak Tree.
Suitably chastened he then set to and assisted Josh until he was bowled by the opener and with Corey put on a few more for the 38th and final over
Hdegy and Dan had deicded on an attacking field and with silly mid on and off, set about the openers with Z and Dan opening the bowling and taking 4 wickets in short order, dan having a very good set of stats for his 3 wickets.
James P was asked to join int he fun and he took 3 himself with Harry supporting from the other end, both being a bit leaky but learning as the day went on.
Finally Corey wsa asked to turn his arm over, and whilst trying a run to MAx at mid wicket, did know that he had one of the few arms in the club as the ball whistled towards the non striker's end from about 60 yards away and took the stump clean out leaving the striking batsman stranded.
So ended a very good game of cricket, all to the good of our visitors who played under strength but gave a very good account of themselves.
JP got Man of the Match, and ignoring the excellent assistance given in the field by DH, both to Dan and every other youngster out there, he sadly got Calamity for his batting display
