Hmmmm! Not the start to the season we were hoping for, but perhaps we now realise the task ahead of us this year, just to play good, consistent cricket. For us to have so many ducks, the majority bowled by yorkers, is testament to how much work we need to put in. Winning the toss would have helped, as the pitch continued to dry and harden as the day progressed, but alas 'Heads@ wasnt the call!!
There were some good moments, namely Max scoring 46 and rightly earning MoM award. Jim Kirkham looked pretty steady, and I felt like i was middling the ball, (until i middled it into the keepers gloves). Neil Davey hung around for quite a while, but the rest, I'm afraid looked quite rusty with the bat. We went from 50-2 to 86 all out. The weather hasn't helped, but we need to get in as much practice as possible so the nets will be accessible all week round. I have to say the fielding was very GOOD, much better than last year, although 2 tough chances got spilled (hence the fines pot has been reinstigated)
The bowling started well with Ali taking the opening wicket in the 1st over, and I managed to keep the runs down though the ball was swinging a long way. I ended with 2-14 off 10 overs, Ali with 1 for 11 off 4. I'm afraid Neil Davey wins Captain Calamity for his first over which went 4,6,0,0,bye,6! Polks bowled well, taking an important 4th wicket to get us 1 bowling point!
Thank you to everyone for their efforts. Things were bound to be tough after the bad weather. we need to knuckle down now, and ensure we value our wicket, always bowl at the stumps, and be on our toes in the field.
The fines pot is in operation for dropped catches AND ducks so
Rob Turner £1 (paid), Dan Jones £1 (paid), I am still awaiting 50p's from Dan C, Ali, and Andy Polkey.
Anyway, we have a week off due to scheduling (!!) the next game being Southwell 2's!!! Get some practice in!
