Match Report

FISKERTON'S BIG DAY!

It was a long night......! The clinking of glasses, uproarious laughter, and Sky Sports' Jones managed to drown out the wailing and gnashing of teeth coming from a hill top in Southwell.

It was a great day.....!

We won the toss and elected to bat under a hot sun, expecting a very tough game. Max and Newbs started brilliantly; 9 off the first over, setting the tone, and going on to get us to 45 off 7 overs before Newbs fell to an LBW decision, bringing 'Test Match Hedgey' to the wicket. He batted really well for 49 off 73 deliveries, running himself out as he ran out of steam on a rare second run! Kirkham, myself, and Dan came and went during Hedgey's innings, Dan scoring a steady 27. Neil kept up his strike rate, with 17 off 18 balls and then Laught's arrived at the wicket, in Act 1 of his MoM performance, smashing 32 no off 21 balls including a lovely 6. Our new number 11, Joe Hare, will undoubtedly be batting higher up, after his shot of the day, back foot cover drive for 4. Poetry - and it really was a 'poke in the eye' for a bemused chastened Southwell team.

After a marvellous tea, we set about their batting attack with some aplomb! Andy Laughts was quite simply, BRILLIANT, taking 5 for 3 off 6 overs, bowling beautiful lines and lengths, and swinging the ball away from the right hander. Southwell's number 3 Wibbs certainly was their danger man, in my eyes, yet Laughts only needed a few balls to tee him up, and Hedgey (Test Match Hedgey!), took a rather nonchalant one handed catch at gully to basically seal the deal.

Ali took 1 wicket for 8 off his 5 overs, I cleaned up the older and younger generations of the SOuthwell team, taking 3 for 0 off 3, and Joe completed the game with his first wicket, Ali taking a simle catch at cover. The score, unbelievably was 27, 7 of which was scored by their No 11. We left the pitch rather pleased with ourselves, led off by MoM Andy Laughton who had an excellent day

Thank you very much to Paul Black for umpiring. Well done, Boys! That will taking some beating. I know all of you are going to be playing in the return fixture at Fisko!!! Clear your diaries now!!

Bring it on....
