Match Report

What could be better? Sunny, playing at Fiskerton on a ground second to none,2 umpires,2 scorers and the best teas in the league, thanks to all concerned.I won the toss and decided to bat ( easy decission having 10 players waiting to string me up if I decided to field in the heat) and openned with Rob Bailey and myself. The partnership lasted for 3 overs when Rob was bowled for1 with the score a10.Max Danby was next at the crease who looked good untill he made a poor shot with the score 56 .I was joined by Dave Hedge fresh from his 70odd on Saturday.Dave was bowled with the score at 89 off 26 overs. Next in was The Don Richard Robson with the score at104 inthe 28th over Robbo strides down the wicket and asked "whats the next target skip"? I knew the overs were slipping away but told Robbo nothing stupid untill the 30th over (8 balls)he then faces the next ball and plays it down midoffs throat. Thanks Robbo see you soon.Jim Kirkham on a king pair plays his first ball with ease and makes a comment not suitable for the web.I am next to go 47 off 92 ball(striking the ball to all corners of the ground in  a fluent knock NOT) with the score at104 for 5 with 31 overs gone. I have played cricket for many years(no comments please) but I have never seen such clean hitting from a youngster. With 9 overs to go 160 to 170 look a target but Dan Collington had other ideas. The next 5 overs produced 42 runs before Jim was run out for 18.Gav Lewis joined Dan and 30 came off the next 3 overs Gav was then bowled for 11.With 1 over left and the score on 176 I sat back thinking great recovery lads but Dan and Andy Laughton took another 27 off the last over. Andy 4no Dan 58no were still thre at the end. Dan scored 3 off his first 9 balls and 55 off his next 22 this was an amazing knock Dan well done and well done Jim, Gav and Andy for the support. The heat was on Dan and Andy in more than one sense and Gedling scored 23 off the first 3 overs before Andy took the first of his 2 wickets. Andy took his 2nd wicket with the score on 44 off 7 overs.I then turn to my first heavweight bowler Andy Beecroft who takes a wicket with his very first ball score58 for 3. Andy B. then takes another wicket in the 20th over just when the game seemed to be slipping away 94 for 5 I take awicket next over with the score95 for 6 off21 overs. Home and dry? a partnership of 58 takes the score to 153 for 6 I turn to our second heavyweight bowler Dave Hedge and Jim Kirkham. Dave takes a wicket in his 3rd,4th and5th overs for figures of 5overs 3 for 11 great spell just when we needed it 173 for 9.Jim takes the final wicket with a ball that swung, dipped and moved a mile off the seam so he told me. Andy B. 10overs 3 for 22 well bowled. Great day at the office well done lads. Those of you that were at indoor nets may remember Jim K. turning up with new kit for the coming season. Jim was very proud of his new kit and used it for the remaining indoor Session and for matches this season. He has now made a discovery his new batting gloves are left handed or maybe someone else spotted it and told him.Max after breaking your bat yesterday it maybe a idea if you get Jim to order you a new one off the net but thinking about it ,going in to face quick bowlers with a hockey stick is not a great idea. I found a pair of cricket whites and a jock strap in the changing room when locking up are they yours Jim?.Check your bags lads and let me know.Toddy
