A great game to watch, which ended in narrow defeat.
We won the toss and decide to bowl. Both openers did their job well, keeping the run rate down and both picking up a wicket a piece. Andy Polkey was the pick of the bowlers today, picking up 3 wickets for just 26 runs.
After 30 overs we looked in a good position with the opposition on 137 for 6 wickets. The last 10 overs however we let the game slip away from us. One batsman ending up on 71 and another on 49 not out. One reason of this is due to some poor fielding and dropped catches towards the end of the innings, something that we need to learn from.
However they ended up on 216, a total that we thought was easily do able.
We weren’t off to the greatest start, with me getting out for just 14. Andy Laughton and hedgie then built a nice partnership of about 60, all be It at a slightly slow run rate. However only loosing 2 wickets did put us in a good position for the last 20 overs.
Jim Kirkham then came in looking to find some form and didn’t disappoint. Jim and hedge picked up the run rate and hit 116 off 17 overs. This left us requiring 14 of the last over to win. Dave hedge also only required 1 for his first ever 100 and Jim needed 7 for his 50.
In this last over Dave got his first 100 and Jim got to 50, it left us requiring 6 off the last ball to win. Unfortunately Jim only managed a 2. However it was a great effort from these two and it is the only time you will see two batsman taking pictures in front of the score box despite losing.
Man of the match goes to Dave Hedge for nearly leading us to victory and reaching his first ever 100, only took 37 years and 2 days. Congratulations!!
Calamity goes to jack Surtees for some expensive bowling and some suspect fielding.
