We need to get promotion lads to avoid playing on wickets and outfields like Oxton.I lost the toss and Oxton decided to bat first.Ali Hall and Andy Laughton took the new ball. Andy bowled well in his fist spell and took 1 for 28 off 8 overs Ali taking 0 for 36 off 10 overs. First change Andy Beecroft took 2 for 31 off his 10 overs and Dan Collington bowling 6 overs 1 for 25. Arun Aiyer bowling at the death took 2 for 38 off 6 overs. We managed to keep things very tight untill the last 6 overs Oxton taking 48 from them and finished with a total of 185. Extras were second top scorer with 31 this was a mixture of wayward legside bowling, and uneven bounce from the poorest wicket I have played on in years. The run chase didn't get off to the best start with Neil Davey bowled for 2 with the score at 6.I was joined by Max Danby who once again looked very confident I was next to go for20 with the score29. Max showed great guts after being hit in various places by their openning bowler who used short pitch deliveries on a wicket that was a real joke. Max was out for a solid 29 and Jordan Butler making his debut scored 1.The score now was 60 for 4 off 20 overs, we needed to step up a gear and with Jim Kirkham and Dan Collington this was a great chance especially after Dan's performance last week. Not to be this week Dan bowled for 5, Gav Lewis joins Jim and things start to look up with a parnership of 66 of only 9 overs. Jim then departs for 34 but Gav continues to move the score along and is joined by Andy Laughton and they add 20 in 3 overs when Gav is caught for 33. Arun Aiyer then takes up the charge with Andy and 40 runs come from the next 6 overs. We require 10 from the final 2 overs, the game was there for the taking when Andy is bowled for 19. Arun follows for 27 with the score 182 for 9 with 4 required off 4 balls. Enter Ali Hall just the man with a cool head to see us home. I don't think Ali saw his first ball which is taken by their keeper 4 off 3, next ball rattles Ali on the pads and lands at the base of the stumps, he sets off for a single calling Andy Beecroft through who is run out by at least three yards. Ali as I said to you after the game don't get to down about it,you just cost us the game and 4 points. I think if we all look at Andy Laughtons knock we could learn a few things .His running between the wicket almost won us the game and the way he put bat to ball instead of trying to hit every ball for six shows how easy it can be to score at 8 or more per over. It was really satisying to see our depth in batting and to almost turn the game around and on that wicket shows great application. There are lots of possitives to take out of the match well done lads.
