Match Report

Great effort today by a very young and inexperienced side.

Having lost the toss we fielded first. James opened up the bowling and continued his impressive recent form removing both openers, Paul started off at the other end for 4 overs before being replaced by Dave who quickly had the opposition in trouble turning the ball square and picking up 3 important wickets.

Corey replaced James and picked up two wickets leaving the opposition 83/7. However an important 8th wicket partnership proved hard to brake as there number 9 batsman plundered the runs. Corey (6-0-57-2) and Liam (3-0-29-0) were replaced by James and Paul, James finally breaking the partnership and finishing with great figures of 8-0-24-3. Paul finally removed the number 9 for 40 to finish with 5-0-16-1 before Dave (7.4-1-24-4) mopped up the last wicket leaving the opposition 158 all out.

A great effort in the field, especially from some of our younger members (Oliver and Benedict) and some good work from Connor and both Stuarts

In reply we started off with Dave and James and progressed untroubled to 40 without loss before Dave (33) (having just hit the bowler for 4 consecutive 4’s) picked out their best fielder. I joined James and the score continued to tick along before James (20) was unlucky to get one that spat up off a length and take the edge to slip.

Connor joined me and despite constant advice to take a look and play straight continued to hack across the line and finally missed a straight one to depart for 1. Stuart Murray came to the crease for his first game for fisko and looked a useful batsman easily keeping out the opposition bowlers.

At drinks we were 94/3 and looked on course for a win until I lost concentration straight after tea and was bowled for 34. The two Stuarts kept the opposition out in the field but failed to keep up with the run rate before Stuart Murray was run out for a well made 12. Paul (0) and Liam (0) came and went before Stuart Black (8 not out) and Corey (2 not out) saw us through the overs to leave us 122/7 after 40 overs.

A good effort lads – probably just one batsman short.

Man of the match goes to James for a great opening spell and a composed effort with the bat. Captain calamity to Connor for promising each ball to take a look and play straight before reverting to the hack across the line as soon as the ball was bowled!

Also thanks to Dave who was a great help in the field and his bowling and batting giving us a fighting chance in the game
