Well that was a chasening day in the outfield for Fisko against a team who are far better than any opposition I've played against in either the Saturday or Sunday first team this year and will clearly romp each league for the next 3/4 years as they move up the Sunday tables unless the league move them up to the level they should be.
First of all i have to say a big thankyou to all 11 players who gave their all today and performed admirably. It was a great effort with both bat and bowl and the scoreline does not reflect the effort and ability shown. Simply a day of being outclassed by a team filled with Saturday firsts players.
After turning up and seeing the road that was the Hoveringham wicket the toss was always going to be a good one to win. Unfortunately i called wrong and Howveringham chose to bat.
After a good start with Paul Orgill taking 3 early wickets Hoveringhams best two bats them put us to the sword. We rotated the bowling around to give everyone a chance (and to share out the misery). The pick of the bowlers today were Paul Orgill and Thomas Spice, Paul as always had great control and with the 3 wickets had by far the best returned figures, Thomas continued his impressive form bowling a lovely line a length and briefly put a break on the scoring.
The other mention will be to Grog - after taking two wickets with his last two balls against Baseford he came on for his hat trick ball with their number 3 on 94. As we'd hoped his eyes lit up and the looping pie beeing delivered and tried to put it out of the ground, however instead he just picked out Ed who took a great catch to end a fantastic innings and give Grog his first hat trick. Another quick wicket to Grog unfortunately only brought another first team batsman to the crease who promptly hit everyone to all corners scoring 79 off 27 balls before finally holing out to Glenn off Thomas' bowling. Their number 5 also plundered lots of late runs bring up his century before finally holing out to me (nearly taking off my hand in the process!) to give James a well deserved wicket. All this left Hoveringham on 354 for 7 of the 40 overs.
Realising that chasing down that target maybe just slightly out of our reach we endeavoured to go out and enjoy ourselves with the bat. After the early loss of Paul and Dave, Ed joined James and catapulted our scoring rate up before James finally fell for 17. Glenn joined Ed and the two quickly striked up a good parnership. Ed in particlar looking in great nick and bringing up his first 50 of the seson in quick time and taking us past 100 over 18 overs. However once ed fell for 54 the rest collapsed - only Glenn (36) putting up much resistence leaving us all out for 133.
Well done for a great effort under tough circumstances and congratulation to Hoveringham who confirmed themselves and division champions with the win, we wish them well next year as they were a good laugh out on the field as well as being very talented and were very complimentary and encouraging of our younger players.
Man of match goes to ed for his 50, captain calamity to me for loosing the toss dropping a catch (far easier than the one i actually took!) and getting a first ball duck
