Match Report

Matches dont get much closer than this. Both Captains wanted to bowl first, i lost the toss and we had to bat.

What can i say about Dan Jones? His first senior 50 last week followed up this week in style with his maiden senior Century. Opening the batting Dan took to the bowlers with no fear and only gave away one chance, when he was already well set on 70. Both his parents and his sister were also in attendance making it an extra special day for the Jones household.....even Russ Jones wallet got invovled in the postmatch drinks! Dan was well supported from both Akers (26) and Perry (29) and some good late hitting from Bryan Butler (17*) meant a big total of 274 was what we had to defend. Easy right?

Well after such a great batting performance we made ourselves look a right bunch of charlies in the field. Once again mis-fields, no backing up and poor boundary fielding giving the opposition 2 every ball and oh so nearly cost us the game. Their main scorer Max Thompson, who i'm reliably informed is Hucknalls First Team opening bat (Division A) was also dropped 4 times. Thompson scored 108 with an apparently sore shoulder......not so sure about that given how he was teeing off!

There were 2 moments of controversy late on. Firstly in the penultimate over Max Thompson was run out by a mile but was not given by the square leg umpire (he was texting on his phone at the time). To quote G Boycott "a blind man would've give that out'. Then in the final over Thompson hit the ball straight to Steve Milner at the midwicket boundary who took a stunning catch a few inches inside the rope. At this point with us celebrating the opposition declared Steve had stepped on the rope, and disputed it. Now knowing Steve if he'd have stepped on the rope he'd have gone arse over tit broken about 6 bones and gone to hospital. This not being the case a short slanging match followed and thankfully the Hucknall umpire gave his verdict as 'out'.

Needing a further 6 off the last 2 balls to win, Hucknall could only muster 4 meaning we snuck it by 1 run!

I'm delighted for Dan to have scored a ton in a winning cause and he deservedly gets MOTM. I think we need to get a multi Capt Calamity option as there wasnt just 1 today!!
