A difficult week for my first game as skipper due to the absence of steve on his jolly's as selection was not the easiest due to people away and fathers day in the end we only managed to field 10. I admit that i was fairly nervous but luckily had a wealth of experience around me which i was very grateful for rob bailey, jason sharp and robbo just to name a few. I lost the toss and we were put into bat even though it was not what i wanted with the batting line up i had i was still confident we would amass a decent total. Unfortunatly that bubble was burst with losing bobby bailey early on with that max and robbo puttting on a decent stand with robbo finally departing on 18 to a girl unlucky robbo it happens to the best of us. In typical fiskerton style there was a middle order collapse losing jim kirkham, dan collington and kev osbon for very few runs. Sharpy arrived at the crease and looked good but finally fell for 15 this left fiskerton at 60 for 7. Next came in my view the main contributing factor to the victory was a superb 8th wicket stand between neil 'the brighton warrior' davey and yet again andy laughton with great running and dicipline at a very precarious stage in the innings shone through and steered us to what seemed like an impossible total of 134. On which can only be described as a very slow track with alot of swing although that cant be used as the excuse for poor shot selection in the conditions.
Going out to field everyone was up beat and ready to defend a smaller total than expected. From the word go i was very impressed with the attitude of everyone on the pitch people were switched on and very few mistakes were made in the field through out the innings. Opening the bowling was andy laughton who carried on his great eason with both bat and ball with figures of 7-3-0-21. Equally on the other end the man of the moment with the ball phil z who seems to of cemented his place in the 1st's and extending his wicket tally to 35 with figures of 10-2-3-21. The opening wickets coming off the overseas pro with two great catches from dan collington at cover. With yet again an abundance of bowlers to choose from i strangely the captain chose himself to come on but we'll leave it at that. Jason sharp took over and showed how its supposed to be done with 6 very tidy overs finishing with 2 for 16. Dan and Venomous Davy eventually finished off the tail order of radcliffe to complete a great day for the 1st's dragging a victory out off the jaws of what looked like to be a certain defeat. Overall a very good performance in all with yet again the batting the only thing that let us down. The attitude through out was superb and made my job very easy as captain with big thanks going to all. I would also like to add that ive picked two man of the match awards this week with andy laughton and neil davy for their superb stand in the middle. Captain calamity im afraid had to go to robbo for his dropped catch off sharpy i would of given it to myself for my bowling but feel ive hogged the title for to many weeks now sorry robbo!!
