Match Report

A big thank you to everybody who stepped up to play for the 1st XI this Saturday, you know who you are.

Attenborough has to be said, is one of the most beautiful grounds to play on, and the 10 men that joined me in the field on Saturday did themselves proud. Andrew Polkey showed everybody what a handful he can be by bowling a perfect line and length. Producing his career best figures of 12 - 5 - 16 - 2, an amazing spell of restrictive, pressure building bowling against Attenboroughs top order batsmen. Ali, tried to support at the other end, but it is just not happening for him so far this year. He'll be disappointed with his figures of 10 - 0 - 58 - 0.

So having built great pressure early, and exposing the middle order we were just unable to get a grip on them, and in the end this is where we probably lost the game, their number 4 & 5 batsmen scoring 72 & 62*. Which took them to 214 for 5.

As for the fielding, James Stevenson had a great day behind the sticks, and has certainly improved even further in the last 12 months and in no way looked out of place. As for Kyle Barker & Roger Tysoe, these are players that will always give the team their all. Well done lads.

Batting wise, Kirkham and myself opened. Kirkham fell early, playing down the wrong line. However, Andy Laughton showed once again that he is in good touch with the bat. We went on to have a 126 run partnership for the next wicket before Andy was bowled to a very good ball for 57.  A few overs later I too was bowled, and unfortunately the Fisko collapse reared its ugly head. We went from 130 for 1 to 152 all out. However I wish to make it very clear that the players that played gave their all, and I was very proud of them. The blame for this defeat lies firmly at the players doors who talk a good game and remain unavailable for selection.

At this point in the season I am very disappointed to say the least, at the lack of ambition the senior players of our club have towards availability. As a result I feel compelled to approach the committee, with a view to dicuss which team to lose at the weekends. Never before in 26 years have I witnessed such a lethargic response to play for Fiskertons 1st XI from the senior players. On a personal note I would much rather be playing with the future of the club and helping them to develop rather than continuing with this culture that seems to breeding within our senior players.
