This week saw Thurgaton grace fisko's track with their presence a game for all those who played in the irst match of the season was a chance for revenge. I won the toss and due to a damp track decided to have a bowl on the basis that it would b easier to bat on a dry track later in the day. We got off to a very good start with Ali hall and Rich drinkwater bowling well with Ali taking the first wicket of the day. Andy beacroft came on along with Arun aiyer the other end to mix things up abit early doors hoping for a bit of movement off the damp surface. This gamble paid off gettin 3 quick wickets leaving Thurgaton 60 for 4 at the turn. Unfortunatly this is where things started to go against us some big hitting from thurgo's no 5 added 40 runs in quick succession all of which could of been avoided had acting captain/wicket keeper not fumbled an easy stumping when he was on very few. Eventually another breakthrough taking Thurgaton to 120 odd for 5 What happened next shocked and annoyed alot of people. As Ali came steaming in, in his second spell a blatant outside edge taken behind by jim kirkham shortly followed by great celebration by the rest of the team was short lived as the umpire signalled nothing and even more unbelievable the batsman didnt walk. This changed the mood of the feilding side heads went down in frustration as he went on to make 50 not out. Thurgaton finished on 198 for 5 although in my view in very unsportsman like fashion.
Onto Fiskertons reply and also a chance for Bobby bailey the make a mends for his first ball of the innings duck in the previous encounter. Alas it wasnt to be his day again as he fell for single figures. In comes Rich drinkwater and with Hedgie put on a great partnership to take us to 110 for 1 before drinky finally is out with a well played 38. In typical style fisko go through another middle order collapse leaving Hedgie to keep fighting his end to push us in the right direction. Unfortunatley he eventually fell for an impressive 70 leaving us 50 short of what we need with the tail end to try and pull us through and with batting down to 9 i was still confident it could be done. Alas it was not to be our day and we fall 26 runs short of our target. Work still needs to be done if we want to be playing in division 2 in the future although i do feel and im sure many others do that the victory was cheated from us. Tough games coming up in the tail end of the season lets hope we finish the season with a flourish! Man of the match was Dave Hedge for his fantastic batting performance and captain calamity this has to be Arun Aiyer for going out to bat and nearly making it into the middle before realising that he had forgot his gloves!
