Well it was one of those days unfortunately. We lost the toss on a stinking hot day, on a traditional Fisko batting wicket. Not a good way to give the troops a morale boost!
Its fair to say we toiled in the heat and were put to the sword going for 309 off the 45 overs. Most got some tap, but none more so than me. I narrowly missed out on my maiden ton, going for a staggering 99 in 12 overs! In my defence......no, no, i was just that bad! We did waste at least 4 chances in the field and gave away too many 1s and 2s with poor fielding, which always makes life harder on a hot day. Some positives were Paul Black bowling some good off spin and taking 3 wickets, but having Ali Hall back for the first time this season was great to see. He bowled with good pace and was too good for Burton Joyce in truth. A quick mention for George Aylwood too who took 2 great catches in the outfield and fielded like a tropper all afternoon.
The talk after tea was about us making life difficult for Burton Joyce and making them toil in the heat. I was really chuffed that we managed to do just that by posting the highest score of the last 2 seasons with 196 for the loss of only 5. James Tamplin struck a great 79 and i made up in part for my bowling with 48. That partnership meant Burton Joyce went nearly 30 overs without a wicket which frustrated them hugely. I was impressed with the attitude of all the lads who batted none of whom gave their wickets away. Lets take that mentality forward.
MOTM - James Tamplin for a great knock
Capt Calamity - I suppose i'll take that. Out on 48 and going for 99 in 12 overs. Oops.
