Match Report

First up for Fiskerton 2nds in 2009 was a trip to play an unfamiliar Claypole, in the opening fixture of our Division 5 challenge! With the pitch showing signs of neglect over the winter, including 2 sets of car tyre marks running perfectly on a length at each end, the ideal start would have been to win the toss and to put the opposition in!! But alas, once again another toss lost and into the unknown openers Gav Lewis and Kev Osbon went. Gav saw out the first over with relative ease thanks to some rusty bowling from the Claypole opener, but then in the 2nd over Kev (0) fell to an inswinging yorker which trapped him LBW right in front of middle stump, Gav (8) followed shortly after to the same bowler with a ball that pitched back of a length and with Gav set for the pull, the ball never rose higher than 3 inches from the floor, bowling him middle stump!! 20 - 2 not an ideal start to the season!! With Akers and Formoy now at the crease a partnership began to form, with the majority of the runs coming from the flashing and sometimes cunningly clever blade of Glenn Formoy, including a wind assisted maximum back over the bowlers head!! Akers (10) finally fell, caught at mid wicket, shortly followed by Rob Turner (4) 3 overs later who unluckily played on trying a deftly dab down to the 3rd man (idiot).

Step up Sikhander Hayat for his 1st innings for Fiskerton, and after a slow start and the departure of Formoy (40) began to find his shots, starting with a beautiful cover drive for 4. The unpredictable Phil Zdanowski has now joined him at the crease and after a nervy start, he too begins to find some scoring shots and avoids a repeat of last years one month run drought!!! Eventually the inevitable happens and Phil (13) is bowled around his LEGS after walking too far across his stumps! Dave Foulkes now arrives at the crease after only having arrived 10 mins before, and instanly has an impact, driving a ball through extra cover for 4 off just his 3rd ball. With the overs running down Fisko begin their final push, losing Foulkes (22), Hayat (35), young Kyle Barker (2), and new boy Ian Wilkinson ,who falls 1st ball, leaving only 2nd new boy Stephen Milner at the crease on 2 N.O. Fisko bowled out for 167 off 39.4 overs.

Philly Z resumed his normal service opening the bowling, with a maiden to begin with, abley supprted at the other end by Turner who gets the opener cheaply in his 1st over. Wickets continued to fall for Claypole with Z finishing with figures of 10 - 3 - 20 - 2 bowling all 10 overs straight through. Turner takes 3 wickets in his first spell and feels it is time for a change. Ian Wilkinson replaces Turner for his first over in a real match, and Paul Franks' coaching comes in handy as he is rewarded with a wicket before he has to leave early to catch a train, removing one of a dangerous looking bottom order for a duck finishing with (3 - 0 - 4 - 1). Fisko now down to 10 men and Glenn Formoy replaces Phil. and bowls another danger man, who scored 69 for Claypole 1sts the previous week, also for a duck!! Looking good for Fisko, or so it seemed!! Formoy began to leak boundaries and with Akers trying his hand at the other end the result was in the balance. Turner replaced Akers ( 2 - 0 - 10 - 0 ) to see out his remaining overs and after being smashed for 2 consecutive fours, removes another big hitter for 28, finishing with figures of 10 - 1 - 44 - 4. But the job was not finished and without another familiar seamer in the team, Sikhander Hayat is called upon to recreate his promising bowling in the nets, and he doesn't dissapoint, removing the young number 10 of Claypole finally for 18 with the 1st ball of his 2nd over, leaving Formoy with final figures of 7 - 0 - 34 - 2 and Sikhander with 1.1 - 0 - 4 - 1 and Fisko with their first win in the opening fixture of Division 5

Well Done Lads!!

Rob
