Match Report

Well it cant be said that this wasnt an improvement on the first 2 games, but still a disappointing result leaving us without a win yet on a Saturday.

Having lost the Toss on a grey and damp day we were always gonig to be inserted. The match was reduced to 36 overs a side and when we were down to 11-2 off 6 overs, there were a few worries that another collapse seemed on the cards. However the crowd went wild as first we passed 100 runs (collectively) for the season, and then we treated them by passing the previous weeks 19 all out. Phenominal Stuff.

Batting was tricky, with some slow and even slower bowlers on offer from Caunton, but usefull contributions from Cope (33), Akers (23) and Collo Snr (19no) meant we managed to make it to 125 for 7 off the 36 overs, just 1 run short of the 3rd batting point.

After tea it seemed we would be crushed. Caunton rushed to 52 without loss in reply, and until Kirkham nom nomed in and got the first wicket we looked dead and burried. Enter Dan Collington (aka Angry Kid). Dan was just too quick for anyone and bowled 6 overs of nasty pace, knocking 4 over for just 12 runs. Danby twirled away at the other end and took a couple. All of a sudden Caunton were 92-7 with overs running out. We were absolutely buzzing. Joe Cope even said 'i didnt like cricket 30 minutes ago, i love it again now'. What a soundbite.

The crucial decision was a run out not given off a direct hit from And Laughton. He was roughly 4.68 miles out of his ground but with us celebrating, square leg kept his finger hidden. It was crucial as said batsman then hit the winning runs, pretty much by himself to win it for Caunton.

An improvement and the first win is coming.......a few more runs on the board would be nice though!

MOTM - Dan Collo

Capt Calamity - Andy Laughton (although as i write this i'm not entirely sure why!!)
