Match Report

This weeks Guest Skipper was Dave Hedge and after losing the toss and with some drizzle hanging in the air Fisko were put into the field by the opposition. The two Steve's (Collo and Holt) were up first with the ball and it wasnt the best of starts with Newark 26 for 0 off the first 2 overs. However Steve Holt made the breakthrough in his second over tempting the big hitting Curtis into one 2 many shots, stumped by some very quick work with the gloves by Max Danby. Steven Holt finishing with 1 for 27 off his 2 overs and Steve Collington took a break until the last over. And it seems the european theme thats been around the UK with the recent elections was not lost on Fiskerton as the Polish Pro came on to bowl. Phil Z is currently the clubs leading wicket taker with 27 (come on lads surely someone can get more!?). At the other end a suprise choice which left a few spluttering when Dave Hedge asked Ed Akers to bowl from the other end (Obviously he didnt my the figures from a couple of Sundays back!!!). However this pairing seemed to do the trick with Phil Z firstly picking up the other opener with more cat like work from Danby behind the stumps. Another wicket soon followed for Phil with Dan Pearson taking a cracking catch behind square capping off a great MOTM fielding performance. Meanwhile in Akers second over he managed to find himself on a hatrick with the first wicket being skied to Rob Turner (we were all worried....in fact i'd written that wicket off and started walking back to my mark) but by some miracle Rob 'teflon' Turner actually held the catch! Next ball also went stright up and was held by Max Danby. Akers could have had a third however Ian Wilko dropped what can only be described as the hardest catch ever (the hardest ones are the ones straight at you arent they Ian!!?) Phil Z took a third wicket in his final over and finished with figures of 3 for 25 off 3. Akers also had 3 overs finishing with 2 for 22. Enter the skipper Dave Hedge and a return from Steve Collo to wrap up the innings with Dave finishing with 1 over 0 wickets for 1  run (why didnt you bowl yourself earlier?). Steve picked up a deserved wicket finishing with 1 for 22 off 3 overs. Newark made 102 for 7.

So with Fisko chasing a gettable target Dave turned to Steve Collo and Ed Akers to open the batting (what a mistaka to makea). Akers first ball was wide of off stump and he shoved one stright up to Covers for an easy catch. What a numpty. Jim Kirkham and Max Danby soon followed until Dave Hedge joined Steve and a period followed where Fisko looked like they could get a result. However with Hedge looking comfortable he was snared for 16. Steven Holt than put up a brave resistence but also went cheaply for 2 runs. That left Rob Turner to try and dig in, but it wasnt to be. With Fiskerton needing 14 off the last ball and Steve Collo's knees about as useful as an inflatable dart board, Rob Tuner decides he wants runs and calls for a quick 3 practically lapping Steve on the last run. Fisko eventially finishing with 89 Steve Collo 41* and Rob T 8*.  A good effort after such a poor start.

Onto Next week with the Guest Skipper Ed Akers.......
