On a warm day, Fiskerton elected to field knowing the crucial wicket of run machine Colin Cliff early on would put us in a good position. Thurgarton got aff to a steady start with Dave Foster (31) and Colin Cliff making a good partnership albeit slow. Cliff eventually fell to Sharp caught behind by Rees for 34. Two other Thurgarton batsmen managed to reach runs into the thirties before finishing their 45 overs on 189 for 5. Steve Collo the only bowler to make a dent in the batting by taking a tight 4 for 35 off his 12 overs.
In reply Fisko got off to a flyer with Mike Rees 38 and Robbo 33 taking the game to Thurgarton putting them under immediate pressure. Thurgarton then bring on the slow bowlers, already seeing Fisko's spinner do the damage and this paid off as Jim Mitchell 3 for 55 and Tim Kirkham 3 for 26 ripped through the middle order turning the pressure back on to the league leaders.
Only Sharp, playing in what needed to be a captains innings with the support of Collo Snr brought it close, finally being caught in the deep with 2 overs to go needing 17 to win. A disappoiting team performance that needs putting to the back of the minds of everyone if we are to maintain a promotion winning season.
